A self-taught left-handed player who played a right-handed Fender Stratocaster flipped upside down, Hendrix revolutionized the use of the electric guitar with his pioneering use of feedback, distortion, wah-wah, and other effects. After years as a sideman on the chitlin' circuit backing artists like Little Richard and the Isley Brothers, Hendrix was discovered in New York by Animals bassist Chas Chandler, who brought him to London in 1966 and helped form The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Within months, Hendrix became the biggest rock star in the world. His performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival is considered one of the defining moments in rock history. Hendrix was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and has been ranked the greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone. He died on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27. Redding's melodic bass lines provided the harmonic foundation for the Experience's sound, and he also wrote and sang lead on select tracks, including "She's So Fine" on this very album.
